FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where is the work done?

Our partner company is based in Hamburg. Whether a job can be done in the workshop, at a berth or yard, or elsewhere depends on the job. Tell us the location and the schedule and we check what is possible.

Can you do repairs that need class approval?

Tell us the class society and what approval or inspection is required. We clarify with the partner company which welding procedures, qualifications and inspections the job needs. Approvals themselves are issued by the class society; OceanSphere is not a classification society.

Can you build a part from a sketch or a sample?

Yes, if dimensions, material and load are clear enough. Photos with a ruler or measurements and, if possible, the old part help. For parts that must be machined to tight tolerances we involve our machining partners.

Which materials do you work with?

The focus is steel. Stainless steel and other materials are possible on request; please state them in the request.

Do I have to remove the damaged part first?

Not necessarily. Send photos of the damage and of the surroundings, including access. We tell you whether the repair is possible in place or whether the part has to be removed.

Can a repaired shaft or seat be brought back to size?

Yes. For worn shafts and bearing seats see Thermal metal spraying; for parts that need turning or milling afterwards see Machining.

Is a request binding?

No. A request is not an order. We check it personally and come back by e-mail with an offer or with questions. Orders are subject to our General Terms of Business.
